1872 - George Renwick purchases ‘Aberburnie’

Renwick was a builder and he may have had plans for the development of the estate. If he did, they were never realised. Just twelve months later, on 11 October 1873, the property was advertised for auction, but apparently didn’t sell.  In August 1874, he finally sold to Samuel Bennett. It appears that the sale was privately negotiated as we can find no record of the sale price and there is no record of a mortgage. It appears that at this point in his life Samuel had the means to purchase outright, and probably to drive a hard bargain.
