1888 - Purchase and consolidation by Alfred Bennett

20ac block and Lots 6, 8 & 9

The property was auctioned on 23 March 1888 and Alfred Bennett purchased the original Mundarrah Towers 20ac block together with Lots 6, 8 & 9 from Eliza’s Estate. He paid £15,100 and funded the purchases with a mortgage from the Trustees of Eliza’s Estate. In 1891 he took out a further mortgage with the Union Bank of Australia.

Lots 4 & 7

On 31 Mar 1879 John Heaton, Rose’s husband, & Christopher Bennett had purchased Lots 4 & 7, lying to the south of the driveway leading from Arden Street to Mundarrah Towers (later to become Burnie Street) for £740. Later that year, Christopher purchased Heaton’s ½ share for £485, becoming sole proprietor of the two lots on 26 Sept 1879.

On 31 August 1888, Alfred purchased these 2 lots from Christopher for £4,500, with a mortgage to Christopher for the full amount at 6% interest payable annually and redeemable 28 October 1891. In 1890 Alfred took out an additional mortgage from The Union Bank.

From Old Systems Title to Torrens Title

On 4 Sept 1889 Alfred brought the whole 46 acres under the Real Property Act in Primary Application 7579.
